Wiesner,
D. (2001). The three pigs. New York, New York: Clarion Books. This is not your
typical 3 little pigs story. In his attempts to blow down the pigs homes, he
finds that they disappear off the pages. The three pigs leave their pages and
venture off into other nursery rhymes. In the end all three pigs and other
characters who follow them end up in the third pigs home, scaring off the wolf
and have a happy ending. Wiesner uses detailed illustrations across the pages.
Texture is used through the lines of the animals , landscapes, and pages.
Neutral hues cover many of the pages, where more pastel colors are used for the
nursery rhymes pages. Wiesner provides an alternative to the traditional
nursery rhyme that will be sure to have young reader giggling. This book can be
used to present problem and solution, cause and effect, inferencing, and theme
for both younger and older readers.
