Rosa

Giovanni, N. (2005). Rosa. New York, New York: Scholastic. Riding the bus home from her seamstress job, Rosa took a seat on the neutral section bus. Rosa was told to leave her seat and relocate and she stood her ground, told the police officer no and was arrested.  Giovanny tells a story of a brave woman who stands up for her people of color and fights for what it right. By making a stand, Giovanny presents historical event in our nations history that help set forth a national movement for civil rights. The hues that cover the pages are bold, rich, and contrast brilliantly against one another. Rosa would be a good selection to read to a younger class in teaching about the over all civil rights movement. Readers could discuss the causes and effects of the movement and standing up for what they believe in. Attached is a link to the book and a narrated description is provided http://www.scholastic.com/teachers/asset/rosa-book-trailer.
