Kinney, J. (2007). Diary of a wimpy kid. New
York, New York: Amulet Books. For most kids, middle school is a big deal.
Trying to keep up with more than one teacher, making new friends, who to sit
with in the cafeteria, dressing out for physical education class can be
overwhelming for a newbie. As Greg goes through his first year of middle
school, he records in his everyday experiences in his diary. Apparently his
mother is making him do this. As Greg proceeds in his entries, he has to deal
with his friend Rowley becoming more popular than him. Follow along with Greg
as he thinks of ways to use his friend to assist him in becoming popular as
well and what he goes through to do so. Kinney uses simplistic drawings of Greg
and Rowley throughout the book, along with word bubbles. He presents common
emotional conflicts among adolescents today, jealousy and finding your
identity. Lessons can be taught in identifying these social conflicts amongst
adolescents, such as, problem and solution amongst friends, doing what is
right. Attached you will
