Harris, R. (2014). It’s so amazing. Somerville, Massachusetts:
Candlewick Press. Children begin to ask questions eventually about how babies
are made, how and why their bodies are developing, and sexuality. This book
breaks it down simply for a young reader to understand. It provides information
and answers about safe relationships, prevention of pregnancy and diseases, and
understanding their bodies. Illustrations in comic book form are provided to
correspond with the text. Harris provides detailed information to any question
a young reader would have about the reproduction system, their bodies, and
relationships. Colors are vibrant and fill the pages to make it kid friendly.
Harris includes two animals, duck and bee, to provide comic book like dialogue
to ask questions and lead to answers within the book. This book would be good
to use in a health class for simplistic reading materials. If used in a health
class or in older reader’s environments, students could work on sequence,
chronological order of events, work on summarization using somebody, wanted,
but, so, then (SWBST) strategy. Here is a video over the series from R. Harris.
