Klassen, J. (2012). This is no my hat.
Somerville, Massachusetts: Candlewick Press. A little fish stole a hat that did
not belong to him. It belonged to the big fish. He thinks that no one will know
where he will go to hide, but little does he know he is being followed by the
big fish. Even in hiding the big fish finds him and takes back his hat. Klassen
uses simplistic illustrations of fish and plants under water. The colors are
dull and soft against the dark background of the pages. The lines used for the
plants are think in in different dull colors. The texture of the fish are
minimal with few lines for gills and some dots upon each fish. This book would
be good to use for a lesson about identifying theme for young readers and
possibly older readers who need simplistic readings. Young readers can identify
emotions looking at the big fish as he tracks down his hat.
